  • The stadium was previously known as the Amsterdam Arena and was officially renamed in 2018 in honour of Ajax's legendary footballer Johan Cruyff who was born in Amsterdam and passed away in March 2016.
  • The stadium was the first in Europe with a retractable roof.
  • The inaugural match on 14 August 1996 was a friendly between the home team Ajax and AC Milan, which ended with a 3–0 win for Milan. The first goal in the new stadium was scored by Dejan Savićević.
